Steep stairs, low ceiling, damp: in Antwerp, a basement clearance takes preparation. Sparkling Services assesses access, volume and the value of what can still be used, then offers one of three options in a free quote: free clearance, we pay you, or a fixed price. The cellar is left empty and swept.
Basement clearance in Antwerp: our approach
In Antwerp, two worlds sit side by side below ground. Under the townhouses of Zurenborg, Het Zuid or Berchem, the cellar is a string of small brick rooms, linked to the ground floor by a steep staircase you go down sideways. In the towers of Linkeroever and the apartment blocks of Deurne, each flat usually has a wire-mesh storage box in a shared corridor, often far from the lift. We clear either one without touching the rest of the home: old bikes, crates of bottles, moving boxes that were never unpacked. For a storage box in a building, all we need is the managing agent's badge or key and the compartment number.
Soaked boxes, mouldy textiles, swollen chipboard: in a damp cellar in Antwerp, we wrap these materials on site so spores do not spread through the house. Papers, photos and letters we find, even damaged, are set aside in a crate and handed back to you.
Clearing a cellar in Antwerp: stairs, damp and access
Cellars in the late nineteenth-century houses around Cogels-Osylei often have a light well onto the street and an old tiled floor, sometimes damp in winter. Large furniture was brought down in pieces: it goes back up dismantled, in light loads. In the Linkeroever buildings, the challenge is distance: cellar corridor, shared lift, then the entrance hall to the pavement. We book the lift with the managing agent and protect the car. On the street side, a temporary parking ban is requested through the City of Antwerp's online counter, and the low-emission zone shapes our choice of vehicle. What comes up is sorted on site: glass, metal, wood, appliances. The city's recycling parks are for residents; our loads go to suitable recycling channels. Paint and solvents are kept apart for a specific collection.
Basement clearance in Antwerp: Borgerhout, Eilandje and Ekeren
In the narrow workers' houses of Borgerhout, Hoboken or Merksem, the basement is cleared the same way as the rest of the house: room by room, through a single hallway. Where there is a courtyard at the back, we use it as a sorting area so the pavement stays free while the van waits. In Eilandje, the new apartment buildings raise different questions: an access badge, a lift that has to be booked and an underground car park with limited headroom, which our vehicle cannot always enter. In that case we load from the street, after agreeing the route with the building manager.
In Ekeren, Wilrijk or Berendrecht, detached houses come with a garage and a garden: the basement and the garage can be cleared in one visit, and the truck can usually park close to the door. Borsbeek, a district of the city since 2025, is covered in the same way. On the street side, the temporary no-parking signs are in principle put up by the city services.
