Need to clear a cellar in Leuven before a sale, the end of a tenancy or building work? Sparkling Services removes jars, bottles, soaked boxes and old furniture, sets your documents aside and separates hazardous products. A few photos of the stairs are often enough for a free quote, and you do not need to be there.
Basement clearance in Leuven: our approach
Beneath the townhouses of central Leuven, the cellar is usually low, divided into small vaulted rooms and linked to the hallway by a steep staircase. In houses split into student rooms, it often serves as a bike store and shared storage, piled with frames missing wheels, mattresses, boxes and furniture left by several generations of students. We clear it at the landlord's request, with the landlord deciding what goes, ideally between two academic years. Bikes in good condition are offered for reuse, the rest go with the metal. In Kessel-Lo and Heverlee, these are more often family-home cellars, easier to access.
Soaked boxes, mouldy textiles, swollen chipboard: in a damp cellar in Leuven, we wrap these materials on site so spores do not spread through the house. Papers, photos and letters we find, even damaged, are set aside in a crate and handed back to you.
Clearing a cellar in Leuven: stairs, damp and access
Leuven's traffic plan works in loops: you cannot drive across the centre, and each address is approached from the ring road via the right loop. We plan the route and request the parking ban through the City of Leuven's online counter several days ahead. Tenancies mostly end in June, July and September: booking early means the cellar can be cleared before new tenants arrive. In a student house cellar, we remove nothing that has not been confirmed: a bike claimed later is a real headache for the landlord. Contents are sorted on site, wood, metal, paper, appliances; paint and gas cylinders are kept apart. EcoWerf's recycling parks are for residents; our loads follow other suitable recycling channels. The cellar is left swept, ready for the next tenants' bikes.
Leuven basement clearance: the Groot Begijnhof, Arenberg and Wijgmaal
Around the Oude Markt and the Groot Begijnhof, the cobbled streets are narrow and busy: we arrive early, with a suitable vehicle, and prepare loads indoors to keep the time spent outside the door to a minimum. In Heverlee, around Arenberg park, the villas and professors' houses sometimes have basements holding papers, books or archives: documents are sorted with you before anything leaves.
In Wilsele, terraced houses are usually cleared in a single visit, with the front door as the way out. Wijgmaal, more village-like, often offers more room to park and sort. In a student house, the basement may also hold furniture replaced over successive leases: whatever is still in good condition goes to the social economy, and the rest is sorted by material. The Vaartkom area, redeveloped along the canal, is covered with the same preparation.
