Basement clearance in Brussels: our approach

In the Pentagon and the Marolles, the cellar of an old house is a sequence of small brick vaults that sometimes extend under the pavement. Low and often damp, it is reached by a narrow staircase from the hallway. In buildings in the Louise Quarter or the European Quarter, each flat usually has a numbered private storage cellar along a shared corridor, which the managing agent opens on request. We clear both kinds by carrying everything up by hand, without cluttering the hall or neighbouring compartments. In Laeken, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Haren, it is more often the basements of single-family homes.

  • Vaulted cellar: furniture dismantled on site, several rooms cleared one after another.
  • Private storage cellar in a building: access arranged with the managing agent, only your compartment is cleared.
  • Full basement: cellar, laundry and boiler room in one quote.

Each type of cellar in Brussels has its own method.

Clearing a cellar in Brussels: stairs, damp and access

In central Brussels, the difficulty starts before the cellar. The pedestrian zone and several streets in the Marolles restrict vehicle access to delivery hours: loading has to be quick, with a hand truck for the last few metres. A parking reservation with signs is requested from the City of Brussels several days ahead, and we also check the time slots. In a building, we agree a lift slot with the managing agent and protect the hall floors. Pentagon cellars often hold crates of bottles, archive boxes from long-gone shops or old cast-iron radiators, heavy to carry up a narrow staircase. Bruxelles-Propreté's Buda (Neder-Over-Heembeek) and Demets (Anderlecht) Recyparks serve residents; our loads go to suitable recycling channels, hazardous products kept apart. Papers and photos found in the boxes are set aside for you.

Basement clearance in the City of Brussels: from Sablon to Haren

In Sablon, as in the rest of the Pentagon, many narrow houses have a front door opening straight onto the pavement: there is no yard to set anything down, so every load brought up from the basement goes straight to the vehicle. We prepare bags and dismantled furniture downstairs, then carry them up in a steady flow. In the European Quarter, some buildings share their loading bay with offices; our visit is then fitted into the slot granted by the building manager.

To the north, in Laeken, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Haren, houses often have a well-filled garden and garage, and the basement is only part of the volume: we can clear the lot in a single visit. There is also social housing there, where access to the basement level is arranged with the housing company. The City also runs its own bulky-waste collections by neighbourhood; our clearance includes full sorting and removal.

FAQ

Your questions about a basement clearance in Brussels

How much does a basement clearance cost in Brussels?

A cellar is quoted on volume, stairs, damp and special waste; if it holds valuable reusable items (bottles, bikes, tools, antique furniture), the clearance can be free or we pay you the difference, otherwise you pay a fixed price on quotation. The visit, the written quote and an estimate from photos are free; the price in the quote is the price you pay. More on our pricing page.

Do I need to be there for the managing agent to open the cellar?

No, provided the managing agent or a neighbour can let us in and you tell us exactly which compartment it is. We send a photo of the empty cellar at the end.

How quickly can you come to Brussels?

The free visit usually takes place within 48 hours, then we agree the date together. Urgent (end of lease, sale, key handover)? Call +32 485 39 99 41.

My basement has flooded: what should I do before you come?

Switch off the power if the water has reached sockets, photograph everything and notify your insurer, asking whether an assessor needs to visit before removal. Once the water has been pumped out and the cellar is safe, we remove the soaked items, separate what can dry and, if you wish, keep a photo record for your claim.

Do you also clear an old coal store?

Yes. Coal residue, dust and small rubble are collected with masks and gloves and removed with everything else, and the room is swept. For large quantities of demolition rubble, we tell you at the visit which solution fits best.
